Sprung / Unsprung Mortice Door Knobs
Unlike unsprung mortice door knobs, sprung mortice knobs feature a spring mechanism that enables you to turn the door knob to open a door. This is a user-friendly design that reduces wear and tear on both the door latch and frame. Don’t be fooled into thinking that sprung mortice door knobs are difficult to install. With a fool-proof design, installing our mortice door knobs is a breeze.
What is a Mortice Knob?
Similar to a door lever handle, a mortice knob helps open doors, though with a turning action instead of pressing down on a lever handle. This is a common system for internal doors, which you’ll likely find in your own home. Mortice door knobs are sold in pairs with a connecting spindle, to fit on either side of a door.
A mortice door knob is different from a cabinet knob, as it is designed for internal doors with latchor lock mechanisms, rather than pull-to-open cabinet doors.
How Do You Fit a Mortice Knob?
1. Remove and responsibly recycle the old door hardware.
2. Measure the diameter of the hole through which the new mortice door knob will be installed – it should measure at least 17mm.
3. Insert the TOBI Door Latch through the door.
4. Orient the spindle and cylinder rose correctly and insert both through the door.
5. Mark through each hole of the cylinder rose.
6. Remove the spindle and cylinder rose and drill through the marked holes with a 3mm drill bit.
7. With the door latch, spindle and cylinder rose back in place, screw in with the provided screws.
8. Place the backplate and door knob over the cylinder rose on each side of the door.
9. Tighten both grub screws on each door knob until fully secured in place.
10. Position the strike plate on the door frame, and screw in.
